Operations

This division is supervised by the Assistant Chief of Operations.

Patrol
Patrol officers provide protection and service to the City of Bonney Lake 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Patrol officers are the first responders to incidents. They handle everything from citizens assist to serious criminal offenses such as driving under the influence (DUI), domestic violence (DV), assaults, robberies and so much more. They are one of the most visible representatives of the department.
Marine Services Unit
The Marine Service Unit (MSU) is funded by the State of Washington and provides enforcement out on Lake Tapps during the summer months. The Bonney Lake Police Marine Unit continues to be the lead marine Training Agency in Pierce County. MSU Officer’s teach local students about water safety by demonstrating the proper fitting of life preservers, the hazards of water and other hidden dangers associated with pools, lakes, streams, rivers and oceans.

The rules and regulations listed are enforced on all waterways throughout Pierce County. Please take the time to read and familiarize yourself with this information.

Metro Tactical Response Team
The primary objective of the Tactical Response Team (TRT) is to respond effectively and appropriately to emergencies, major incidents and/or major law enforcement operations that create, or have the potential to create, significant and higher safety risk for public safety personnel and the public. Responses include barricaded subjects, high-risk warrant and narcotic search warrant service. Metro TRT is a multi-agency response team to include the City of Bonney Lake.
Traffic
Bonney Lake Police Department Traffic Officers regularly move their enforcement throughout the City based on traffic complaints, areas of traffic concern and random enforcement. Bonney Lake Traffic Officers are also involved with the Tacoma/Pierce County DUI & Traffic Safety Task Force.

Traffic officers may also be part of the Metro Collision Response Team. The Metro Collision Response Team is a part-time, multi-agency collision investigation team that consists of traffic investigators from Lakewood, Puyallup, Bonney Lake, Sumner, Dupont, Milton, Fife and Buckley. MCRT is responsible for responding to and conducting investigations at serious injury and fatality collision scenes in the participating cities.

The Bonney Lake Police Department continued its participation in the Tacoma/Pierce County DUI & Traffic Safety Task Force. The task force is designed for law enforcement agencies in Pierce County to work as a cooperative group to concentrate DUI and traffic enforcement efforts throughout various locations in Pierce County. The DUI & Traffic Safety Task Force was developed in 1983 when citizens were appointed by Tacoma and Pierce County elected officials to design and implement an education, public information, and enforcement program. Since that time, the program's scope and community involvement has continued to expand and has evolved into today’s DUI & Traffic Safety Task Force.

Bonney Lake residents may request a radar speed sign to be placed in your neighborhood for a limited time period to compile speed data. For more information, contact CSO Yanez. See the Police Other Services Page for updates on radar signs.
