The City of Bonney Lake Parks staff maintain 142 acres of parks and 3 miles of trails located throughout the City. They prepare the sports fields for practice and games, perform year round sports field maintenance, perform janitorial/custodial duties, install and repair park structures and equipment, and perform a variety of tasks in the operation and maintenance of the department. They also maintain the trails within the City keeping it free of litter and graffiti, remove fallen trees, limbs and trim foliage for easy access to the City’s trails. Because the Parks Division only employs 2 full time employees, 6 seasonal employees are hired for the summer months to assist staff with the parks and trail maintenance.

In addition to maintaining the grounds and equipment, the parks employees are an integral part in preparing for and cleaning up after many of the City events that are held throughout the summer.

Community Trails

The City of Bonney Lake has several trails, and is planning for more trails in the future. Currently, the City's trails are at Allan Yorke Park, Midtown Park and Fennel Creek. In addition, there are Walking Safe to School Routes and many other trails nearby.

The City is expanding the trail system and portions are being developed to connect to the Foothills Trail System.  The City of Bonney Lake is working to create a multi-use trail along Fennel Creek. The Fennel Creek Corridor Watershed is located within the jurisdictions of the City of Bonney Lake and unincorporated Pierce County. This eight mile long watershed is the largest of eight tributaries within the Mid-Puyallup River Basin.

The sculpture that welcomes residents and visitors was created by Larry Anderson, a nationally renowned sculpture who resides in Bonney Lake. It is a sculpture of a boy reaching up to a flock of ducks. The sculpture called ‘The Ascent," is an attempt to make people aware of the area's natural beauty as they make their way from the Sumner Valley up to Mt. Rainier. It represents "ascending to a higher place of existence, enabling the spirit," Anderson says. [Text courtesy of Bonney Lake Lions]
